Mindfulness
What is mindfulness? And why is it good for us?
It is actually a way of life that aims to bring us closer to ourselves and the universe. The main idea is to be present in the moment, attentive to everything that is happening (especially from within).
The entire practice revolves around awareness of ourselves and our surroundings.
We are used to running around in our heads and jumping from past to present to future in an instant. On top of that, life is full of challenges and there is no shortage of things to worry about. As a result, practicing mindfulness can feel difficult or even impossible at first! So like everything in life, practice is key. The good news is that you will see results much faster than you probably expect! Plus, you don’t have to sit cross-legged and meditate if you want to practice (of course that helps a lot but it’s definitely not the only way.)
Why is it good for us? Imagine that your mind is a glass of water with sand and you want to see a beautiful view through the glass. When you stir the water, the sand floats and swirls inside the glass and it is difficult to see the image behind it clearly. But when you stop and let the sand settle, suddenly you can clearly see the image behind the glass. This is what happens in the brain when you practice presence. You begin to see things as they really are. The practice helps improve concentration, patience, reduces stress and anxiety, improves sleep quality and so many other things! And the truth is that only good can come out of it.
